The Department of Civil Engineering of the Islamic Azad University of Arak’s activities started in 1985 along with the establishment of this industrial university, with 43 students who were enrolled in undergraduate program. Over 33 years of activities and elaborated efforts in attraction of highly qualified faculty members, efficient students with so many educational shops and laboratories facilities. Civil Engineering Department has graduated engineers in different levels of undergraduate and graduate who have achieved in significant job positions in the country’s construction industry e.g. buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels, oil and gas platforms, metal or concrete vessels, dams, reservoirs, water treatment and supply, as well as environmental aspects of these civil work .
The Department of Civil Engineering has honored for teaching and training of over thousands of engineers in undergraduate and graduate levels who are proudly engaged in industrial and academic centers in Arak and all over the country. Currently, the Department of Civil Engineering includes 9 full-time faculty members, 2 staffs, and more than 780 Iranian and foreign students of whom 462 are undergraduate (B.Sc.), 171 M.Sc., and 151 Ph.D. students.
Area of Undergraduate and Graduate Study
The Civil Engineering Department’s activities are divided in three main categories:
- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) including Civil Engineering, major.
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) including: Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering ,and Engineering and Construction Management majors.
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) including: Soil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering , Construction Management, Water Resources Management and Engineering majors.

Complete laboratories facilities are available for Civil Engineering Department such as: Soil Mechanics and Dynamic Lab, Masonry Lab, Structural Lab, Strength of Materials Lab, Engineering Drawing Lab, Field Work for surveying, Rock Mechanic Lab, Concrete and Structural Material Lab.
